Rock n Roll At Its Finest
Like I mentioned before, October/November were CRAZY months here in LA. We had Robert Francis, Needtobreathe, and Serena Ryder all in one week. Robert played at The Roxy, which any LA people who haven’t been there, you should go, like now, because it’s the perfect place for a nice intimate show (but not too small), which was perfect for Robert. He played songs from his new album Before Nightfall, which was released that day, as well as a few hits from his first album, One By One. He played beautifully and with extreme expression. He is such a talented musician and he commanded the attention of the audience. His closing song “Do What I Can” was performed solo, just him and his guitar. The audience was completely silent, all eyes and ears fixed on him in amazement of his beautiful voice and extreme passion. Listening to this song gave me chills. It was incredible.
The next night Needtobreathe played with Serena Ryder and it was once again an amazing night of complete talent. This was my first time hearing NTB live, and holy goodness, it was awesome. Their music is a great mix of Kings Of Leon and Coldplay, but with a twist thanks to Bear’s little southern twang in his voice that is just oh so wonderful. They had everyone dancing, clapping, and singing along. They decided to play their last song to a sold out crowd on the balcony of the venue acoustic and unplugged. They relied on the audience to sing along in order for everyone to hear the entire song. It was seriously incredible.
To me, attending our artists’ shows is a significant part of being an intern and working at the label. It is important to show support for the artist and it is a good networking opportunity. I have been to over 30 shows with Atlantic and I LOVE attending shows and spending time with people outside of the office has helped me to build a stronger relationship with everyone. It is a time when everyone unwinds together and gets to enjoy the music they love.

A Day In The Life of a Publicity Intern...
Hey guys! First off, let me introduce myself. My name is Allie and I am a publicity intern in the Burbank office. I am a junior at Loyola Marymount University and I have been interning here at Atlantic (along with semesters at Viva La Rock and Fueled By Ramen in both Burbank and New York) for 6 semesters (2 year anniversary in March! Woohoo!!).
As a publicity intern, I help out with clipping articles about our artists from newspapers, magazines, and online blogs. I also get to assist with regional press (when an artist is on tour- interviews, show reviews, etc about the tour). We have had a massive amount of artists in town over the past 2 months!
Mayday Parade and The Academy Is… came through on the Alternative Press Fall Ball Tour in mid-October, leaving us with interviews and acoustic performances galore! Anthony (the other publicity intern and super awesome dude) went with Mayday in the morning to do press, but in the afternoon the guys came back to the office to do an interview and a short acoustic performance with Alloy. I mainly made sure that the Alloy people were comfortable and had all that they needed. When the band came we had a nice little chat about tour, looked around the office and tried to figure out a fake record player that looked like a UFO.
Straight from the office, we headed over to the venue for interviews with McDonalds TV. Apparently, McDonalds is doing this awesome campaign with a bunch of musicians (including our own Carolina Liar) and the videos will be featured in McDonalds all across the nation. The Academy Is… did a short interview first in this clubroom in the back of the venue. It was a really awesome setting for it because it was dark, lit by chandeliers (and the camera’s lights) and had mirrors all over the walls. After getting Academy all set and taken care of, the Mayday guys got all mic’d up and they started their group interview about what inspired them, how was the writing process, fans on tour, etc. Then halfway through their interview, a fuse was blown and they had to restart :(. The guys were troopers and total sweethearts though. It makes work so much easier and more pleasant when the people are friendly and cooperative. The show was awesome, both bands put on a great performance with lots of energy!
A few weeks ago A Rocket to the Moon came through LA on the OP Tour with Boys Like Girls and had some press to do for the tour and their new album “On Your Side” that dropped early October. They had an acoustic performance and interview at Beta Records (little studio/label in Hollywood), which was totally awesome. The people that work there were totally awesome and the place was beautiful. They had a small little stage, where Rocket performed that had lights dripping from the ceiling. They played three songs, “She’s Killing Me”, “Dakota”, and the first single off the new album “Mr. Right”, which the band filmed a music video for in September (Anthony and I are in it as extras so you should check it out!). I didn’t get to watch their interview because I went to pick the guys up some food, but I heard it went great! Their show that night in downtown LA was awesome! The band sounded great and the audience loved them. The guys was really appreciative and friendly which once again made work feel more like play, plus they remembered meeting me in New York over the summer, which was a really nice surprise!
